Suspected Drunk Driver Collides With Police Officer

large_01HNCRSH25.jpgA suspected drunk driver collided with a St. Petersburg police officer this week. The officer, Gregory Shone, came into to help another officer with stopping a Nissan Maxima on the corner of 20 Avenue South and MLK Street. Officer shone had his lights and sirens initiated when the driver, 39-year old Lura Goldsmith, failed to slow and hit the cruiser.


Two passengers, 39-year old female and 5-year old child were also in Goldsmith's vehicle at the time of the crash. The officer, passengers and driver were all transported to Bayfront Medical Center for the treatment of nonlife threatening injuries. Deputies with the St. Petersburg Police later arrested Goldsmith on Tampa crimina
charges of Tampa DUI and driving with a suspended license. The defendant has been released from the Pinellas County Jail on $750 bail.

St. Pete Driver Injures Officer and Two Paramedics while Driving Drunk

ambulance.jpgA driver has been arrested on multiple alcohol related charges after injuring a police officer and two paramedics assisting with a traffic accident. The driver, 21-year old Kevin Chaney, lost control of his vehicle on U.S. 19 and collided with a deputy cruiser. The cruiser then slammed into the officer, John Coleman, who was working on a traffic investigation.

The impact of the vehicle into the officer caused him to roll over the hood of his vehicle and then jump a guardrail. Two paramedics were forced to abandon the victims of the initial accident to also jump over the guardrail and avoid being hit.

Chaney possessed a blood alcohol content of .219. This is almost three times the Florida legal limit for alcohol consumption of .08. The Pinellas Park Police charged the defendant with DUI, Driving while License is Suspended or Revoked, Reckless Driving and Leaving the Scene of a Crash with injuries. Chaney has not posted the $6250 bail and is currently awaiting trial inside the Pinellas County Jail.

Tampa Attorney Discusses Mother Charged with DUI with her Children in the Car

wine.jpgPasco County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman allegedly driving under the influence with her four children inside the vehicle. The deputy pulled over the driver, 43-year old Stacey Marie Pizza, on U.S.19, in New Port Richey. Pizza had two 3-year olds, a 6-year old and a 16-year old inside her car at the time of the stop.

She agreed to submit. Her blood alcohol content registered at .113, above the Florida legal limit of .08. Officers arrested Pizza and charged her with DUI, third offense and child neglect. Pizza has not yet made $2,150 bond is being held inside the Land O' Lakes Jail.

The State of Florida has stringent laws for repeat DUI offenders. Pursuant to section 316.193(2)(9)2,4(b),(6)j, F.S., an offender convicted of a third offense of DUI will face a mandatory minimum jail sentence of 30 days behind bars. Of those minimum 30 days, 48 hours must be consecutive. The three times convicted DUI defendant will lose their driver's license for a minimum of 10 years. This suspension is in addition to the sentence of jail time, steep fines, vehicle impoundment and/or community service.

Carrollwood Pastor Arrested on DUI Charges

police_lights.jpgIt does not matter what race, background or social status in which an individual belongs. Anyone can be charged with a crime. A Carrollwood pastor has just been arrested on charges of driving under the influence. A deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office witnessed the pastor, 57-year old John Stephen Hillmer, speeding and carelessly driving his vehicle over the white traffic lanes during the early morning hours. Hillmer holds the senior pastor position at Grace Lutheran Church.

The deputy stated Hillmer exhibited signs of alcohol impairment, smelled of alcohol and slurred his speech. The pastor agreed to submit breathalyzer test. He blew three samples, possessed a blood alcohol content of .146, .123 and .134. The Florida legal blood alcohol limit is .08. Hillmer posted $500 bond and is currently awaiting trial out of the Hillsborough County Jail. This is his first criminal offense in Hillsborough County.

The Carrollwood pastor could face a slew of possible penalties for the criminal charge of DUI. He could have his driver's license suspended; face probation, community service, court costs and/or jail time. A DUI conviction is a serious crime that could follow an offender for the rest of their life.
